Peru Municipal Utilities 
Peru Operations - Serves approximately 5,097 customers, generally within the corporation boundaries of the City of Peru. Raw water is obtained from the Teays River Aquifer by 4 wells having a maximum capacity of 9.5 million gallons per day. The treatment plant has a maximum capacity of 4 million gallons per day. The Peru Operations has a total of 3.35 million gallons of treated water storage capacity.

Grissom Aeroplex Operations - Serves approximately 882 customers within the boundaries of the former Grissom Air Force Base. Raw water is obtained from three wells having a maximum capacity of 3 million gallons per day. The water treatment plant has a maximum capacity of 2 million gallons per day. The Grissom Aeroplex Operations has a total of 2.1 million gallons of treated water storage capacity.

Wastewater Collection and Treatment

Peru Municipal Utilities Peru Operations - Serves approximately 5,031 customers, generally within the corporation boundaries of the City of Peru. The Department operates and maintains 85 miles of sewer collection system, most of which are combined sanitary and storm sewers, as well as an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant rated at a maximum capacity of 4.0 million gallons per day.

Grissom Aeroplex Operations - Serves approximately 879 customers within the boundaries of the former Grissom Air Force Base. The Department operates and maintains approximately 35 miles of sanitary sewers and 30 miles of storm sewers. Wastewater treatment is provided by sequencing batch reactor rated at 1 million gallons per day and a conventional activated sludge facility rated at 2 million gallons per day.

TrANSPORTATION

Miami County is within one day's drive of 65 percent of the U.S. population and several of the nation's largest seaports. This solid transportation network includes four-lane highways, rail access and general aviation airports.

All this, plus a $146 million upgrade to U.S. Highway 24 (Hoosier Heartland Corridor) makes Grissom Aeroplex the best-connected community in North Central Indiana.

By air, Miami County offers the world. The longest runway in Indiana - capable of accommodating any aircraft currently in service - is available for commercial use under a "joint use" agreement with the United States Air Force.

Highway
Miami County is located in North Central Indiana along U.S. 31 and U.S. 24 providing local access to S.R. 35, 16, 18, 19, 124, 218 and Interstates 65, 465, 70, 74, 69, and 80/90 within 65 miles.

Truck
Thirteen interstate carriers with terminals in Miami County to include national names like Roadway Express and Yellow Freight. In addition, more than 150 trucking companies serve Miami County out of Indianapolis. Most carriers provide overnight service in a 500-mile radius and second day service in an 800-mile radius.

Air
Indiana's longest commercial runway is located at the Grissom Aeroplex in Miami County and is available for air cargo and aircraft maintenance use through a "Joint-Use" agreement with the United States Air Force Reserve. The Grissom runway is 12,500 ft. long, 300 ft. wide and is supported by a state-of-the-art navigational system. In addition, there are two municipal airports servicing Miami County in Peru and Kokomo . Both airports provide charter service, hangar rental, and flight instruction. Indianapolis International Airport  is approximately 65 miles south of Miami County.Grissom General Aviation capabilities are serviced by an onsite Fixed Base Operator, Montgomery Aviation .

Waterway
Burns Harbor  provides ship and barge connections to the world through the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, including year-round access to the Inland Waterway System, connecting the Midwest to the Gulf of Mexico. The port currently has the capability to simultaneously berth ten ships and has a 27-foot draft. The harbor is located approximately 70 miles northwest of Miami County.

Beautiful lakes, parks, golf courses, museums, antique shops, theater, and more surround Miami County. The City of Peru is home to the Peru Amateur Youth Circus and the International Circus Hall of Fame. Peru's circus heritage dates back to the 19th century when famous circuses like Hagenback Wallace used Peru for winter quartering. Mississinewa Lake, with a summer pool of 3,180 acres, is home to the best fishing, boating, and camping in Indiana. A short drive to the south and you're in Indianapolis enjoying a professional basketball or football game, or cheering on your favorite at the Indy 500 or Brickyard 400 race.

Miami County supports an excellent medical system. Dukes Memorial Hospital, a member of the Lutheran Health Network, offers 60 licensed beds, staffed by 400+ professional caregivers.
